Default False Laser Alerts at Sunrise?

I've had my ZR4s installed now for about five weeks, integrated with my Escort Live direct wired 9500ix. This morning, I had to drive from Topeka to Wichita to join a teammate with a Habitat for Humanity project. Wichita is due southwest from Topeka, and I left before sunrise. About 3/4 of the way there, just after the sun had cleared the horizon at 7:42 AM CDT, I got Laser Alerts at 7:56, 7:57, 8:10, 8:11 and 8:14 (all times CDT). There wasn't a LEO in sight, either ahead of me, or behind me. And even if there were a LEO following me, I don't think that there is such a thing a moving LIDAR. Don't LEOs have to be stationary to use them?

It didn't happen any more after 8:14. On my way back home this afternoon, I had a few Ka warnings, but not a single LIDAR.

Is it possible that the Sun was at just the right angle this morning, and fooled the ZR4?

Were there other cars around? Volvo's perhaps? Did it tell you front or rear shifting? My Volvo causes this on mine and others as evidenced daily and during testing with my rdf crew. Unfortunately, this is a double edged sword, the ZR4, because they are very sensitive and yet also mildly effective for most threats. The price we pay for progress, oy....

I can't say for sure it isnt sunrise but I've not equated it to such on my cars.

They have to be stationary to use LIDAR laser.

It could have been due a nearby car using lane departure or another similar system as 64pvolvo1800 mentioned. It also could have been due to the sun. I have used a ZR4 for years and will occasionally get laser alerts due to the sun but only when the sun is near the horizon and when the shifters are going in and out of shadows very quickly. These shadows are typically from guardrail posts at highway speeds. The shifters probably think these a laser like pulse of light (the sun is an emitter of infrared light after all).

If you see it happen again and there are no cars nearby that you think could be emitting laser then look around for shadows.

What you've described, Larry, is exactly what I've seen from my dashcam videos. Precisely! The sun was low on the horizon, (at about the 7:00 position off my left shoulder), and when when I passed in-and-out of shadows, I'd get the Alert.

I can post videos to YouTube, but I'm reluctant to "waste space". But looking at the dashcam videos, your explanation exactly matches my circumstances.

Thx!

I'm adding two edited videos for consideration. In total there were six false alerts, all shortly after sunrise. The first video shows the first two, just after sunrise, and the second shows four more that followed.

I'm hoping to understand why I had these false alerts. My suspicion is that they can all be attributed to the angle of the sun and passing thru shadows.

It certainly looks like the sun's angle and the shadows and reflections causing it but that still looks like more than usual. I rarely get them unless a shifter is directly in the shadows of guardrail posts. You may want to check your ZR4's ground connection. If it continues, or gets worse, then let me know.

About embedding youtube's into the forum. Just put the video's code number in between the YOUTUBE brackets, not the entire URL. Click "edit" on your above post and look at how I did it. I need to update our forum's software to use the more common method of using the entire URL.

Thanks for the help with the Youtube videos, Larry. Much obliged.

As far as the ZR4 grounding suggestion, I had everything installed professionally, and these false alerts are the first time (and so far, the ONLY time) that it's happened. For now, I'm chalking it up to "Sunrise" anomalies.
