Default got caught over 100mph

around 3 30 am... empty interstate for miles and I was cruising in 20 mile range ( 80-100 mph)
and all the sudden my max 2 turned crazy w/ KA signal, slammed the brake however it was too late.
Pulled over and got nice ticket.
If we put all the moral aside about driving fast, what did i do wrong? why max2 couldn't catch it? Are there any other technology which could catch this?

It's likely that the LEO used Instant-On Ka. There's no technology that can beat this. If there was other traffic at that time, you might have gotten an early warning, nut since you were alone, the LEO saw you and waited until you were closer before trigering his Ka speed gun.

Sorry to hear that you were cited, all the same.

This is a great example of how that we can't solely rely on a detector for tools to "drive smarter" . It's a great tool but not the only one. I am sorry to hear this happened.

When I first started using detectors this happened to me also before I learned more about how things work.

He also probably saw your radar detector and that was ever more reason to write a ticket.

Somewhat side note to this:
Is the "instant on KA" the same thing as POP or not? I haven't seen POP alerts on my Max 2 but my old Cobras back in the day had it. Just curious since mentioning instant on.

I/O and POP are just different methods to trigger a reading on a specific radar gun in addition to its constant on mode. While I/O is extremely fast to trigger and lock onto a speed reading (in about 1/2 a second), POP is even faster (1/10 to 1/100 a second) but LEOs are not supposed to use POP as a basis for issuing a ticket because it is too fast to be reliable to be used as evidence. The MAX 2 can handle POP but it is off by default for good reasons.

For an excellent tutorial on POP just go to YouTube and search for the following video: "What is POP Radar and Does It Matter"

If the guy was going 100mph he was getting a ticket no matter what. A detector on the dash is the least of his concerns at that point. Since detectors are legal in 49 states in today's day and age of electronics most officers could care less if you have a detector or not.

No POP and Instant on radar are two different things. I can't post a link here because of goofy rules but try this. Do a google search for Vortex Radar, his site will be the first option. Go there and read up on his informational tutorials. It's a very informative site.

You have to learn to drive smarter or this will happen over and over to you. Many officers will sit and observe traffic flowing by with their radar gun off or in hold mode. Once they observe a vehicle that they feel is speeding they wait until you are in range and hit the trigger. BINGO your smoked. They can do this with any radar gun, some radar models just make it easier for the officer. Newer digital KA guns seem to be the best but IO K band guns are pretty much the same.

You need to read up on Laser as well. Laser is even more lethal then instant on radar. A detector alone will not protect you from laser. Al laser beam is so narrow if the officer waits until you are in close any radar detector might not even see the shot. And then once again you are toast.

I absolutely agree that he was getting a ticket no matter what. I'm just saying some officers do get aggravated at detectors. Most of them could care less though. They know how to get around them if they really want to.

Instant On technique:
1. Officer sets up an ambush where he can see oncoming traffic but traffic cant see him.
2. Sometimes they ll use darkness of the night and wait for the customer.
3. They radar is off (well, its powered but does not transmit any radar beams). No radar detector can detect radar unit which does not transmit.
4. Once he sees you hauling *** he waits until you are in the zone (kill zone) and presses TRANSMIT button. He gets an instant on reading like 0.3-0.5sec after and you get full blast alert on your detector 0.5sec after.
5. He got your speed, computer locked it and you are still processing in your brain to release throttle and hit the brakes.
6. Pull over imminent.

Dont speed through the night when you are the only car on the road.
I/O will catch you and there s nothing you can do to prevent it.
