Question Best "IVT" Blind Spot Monitor False Filtering???

So I had to send my Redline EX in for service and I've been using my brother's detector, a Max 360 with serial # beginning in 79. Now it has the latest firmware but goes off all the time in traffic due to all the IVT. I was so annoyed by it that I just unplugged it and gave it back to my brother so as of now, I'm detectorless.

I've been reading reviews of the Max 360c. They say it has superb false filtering when it comes to IVT. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I thought the 360c was just a 360 with a new case and wifi. Does the 360c have much better filtering than the original 360? Also, how does it compare to the Redline EX that I currently own? To date, my EX was the best detector I've tried with regards to IVT filtering. Is the 360c better that my EX?

I may end up buying a 360c if it is indeed superior in this regard as at some point in the not so distant future I won't be living where they use MRCD. So I'd just hang onto the EX for my trips back home where they still use MRCD and use the 360c elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for the input!

Yes the 360c has superior filtering and will be better than the Redline EX. THe 360c and regular 360 should be the same as far as filtering capabilities.

Hmm interesting, any reason why my brothers 360 would be going off more frequently than my EX did in traffic? In my experience my EX seemed to filter out more false's.

Well this can depend on a lot of factors. The way that you have your Radar Detector setup. If your Redline EX has TSR on and is in Auto Mode, as well as possibly some segments turned off on K band it could in theory be more quiet than the 360c if it was set to Highway sensitivty with TSR on, but I still believe that the 360/360c woudl probably be the best with filtering.

The reason your brothers is going off and not the Redline EX is hard to say because it's going to depend on settings, the frequency and nature of the radar source in question and the way that the detectors are reacting to the source.

Also though the digitals have superior filtering I am going to guess that they may have a different range of frequency's that they can grab as opposed to the Redline EX but I do not know that for a certainty.

It's really hard to be using a speed sign of anything of that nature to test with as those can be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of tune sometimes. Could you share the frequency of the source in question?

Unfortunately I don't remember the frequency of the BSM that triggers the 360, but when I drive today I'll note it and let you know!

My EX has the following bands turned on, if it's not listed it's turned off. I run it in Auto most of the time, but on road trips I use Highway.

K Band - On
MultaRadar CD - On
Ka Narrow 2 - On
Ka Narrow 4 - On
Ka Narrow 5 - On
Ka Narrow 8 - On
Laser - On
TSR - On
RDR is off

My brothers Max 360 has the following settings and is run almost exclusively in Auto mode.

K Band - On
Ka Band - On
Laser - On
TSR - On

The short answer is that the Redline EX is an analog detector, while all of the Max series are digital. Analog detectors are less sensitive than their digital counterparts.

Interesting, I knew they were analog, but isn't the EX supposed to be marketed as the extreme range detector?

1. Extreme range was more the case for the old RedLine vs newer EX which has more filters (but not as many as the 360/360c).

2. Also, it's possible the 360 update may not have completed correctly even though it reports the latest firmware. I had this happen to my MAX which got more falses after the update. The only way to tell is to re-update it using the "Update All Software" command in Detector Tools and not DT's Green Software Update button that shows on DT's Main Tab.

Damn, I'm going to have to try that out, just give me a hot minute. I'll report back later today.

If you have K on then it overrides the segments. But I do notice you have segment 1 turned off??? It’s entirely possible that is why your EX is missing the alerts.

Also the EX even though it is analogue is slightly more sensitive than the digital units in my humble opinion. It’s going to be very close however the off axis (detection off to the sides) will most likely do a little better with the EX due to the design of the radar antenna. It is a dual antenna and is designed in such a way that the these types of antennas especially when coupled with certain types of Low Noise Amplifiers will be very sensitive to off axis. It’s not entirely needed for off axis since a Cop can’t take your speed accurately at off axis BUT it can still be nice to have. The original Redline was even better at this in certain situation due to its lack of any filtering but it’s mostly Obsolete in today’s driving environment unless you drive on long desert roads with zero traffic. Lol

The digital units are much faster in scanning and have more updated capabilities to filter unwanted noise.
