Default iXc and 2019 GM Hotspots?

Hi All,

I've been a longtime owner of Escort radar detectors. I recently "upgraded" from the Max 360 to the Max 360c *only* to get the WiFi connection to my car's hotspot. At the time I owned a 2017 Chevy and it worked fine. Then I upgraded my car to a 2019 Chevy and since then, the Max 360c no longer connects.

Long story short, the 360c does not work with my or many other's hotspots and Escort apparently is doing nothing to address the issue as we've been posting issue reports for about 8 months. We have verified that the car's hotspot should be working with the 360c as it is 2.4Ghz, etc., but Escort seems to have given up on figuring out what the incompatibility is or fixing it if its something in the detector's firmware. Feel free to browse the 360c's forum for details if you're interested.

Anyway, since the iXc is a newer model (hence newer hardware), I was wondering if anyone has run into WiFi compatibility issues with this model as well; specifically with newer GM cars like my 2019 Chevy.

I would prefer to continue using the Max 360c for its (supposedly) superior radar detection features, but I would seriously consider trading it in for the iXc to get the advertised WiFi connection working. Or perhaps just dumping Escort due to their lack of concern on this issue.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The IX detectors are not all digital like the Max and 360 models. The IVT filtering for K band does not work as well on the IX models so that would be a big step back in performance. Have you called customer service or emailed Escort Radar here on the forum?

Thanks for the reply. I understand that the iX series won't perform as well as the Max series which is why I bought the Max 360 and then the 360c, but I would be willing to give it a try if it worked with my car's hotspot unlike the 360c.

As for contacting Escort - I have spoken via phone, written emails, posted to the 360c forum and exchanged private messages with Escort tech support. The 360c forum has many threads contributed to by myself and others with the same issue.

Escort has acknowledged the issue and (via PM) even confirmed that it was reproducible, but has not said or done anything to fix it. As far as I can tell from their responses and the time since their last "attempt" to diagnose the issue, they don't consider it a problem worth continuing their investigation.

At this point, I have given up on Escort Tech support and am almost ready to give up on Escort products as well.

Since Escort does not specify any differences in connectivity hardware or software between the two RD models I think you can probably assume that they will both function the same in that regard.

Thanks - I kinda figured that. I was hoping that there would be a detailed compatibility listing somewhere for each model since there are obviously incompatibilities aside from the macro issue of WiFi bands (2.4 vs 5).

BTW, my home WiFi is dual-band and broadcasts both 2.4 and 5Ghz. The 360c connects to it without issue when I'm parked at home. The car's 2.4Ghz (B/G) WiFi works with everything I have thrown at it except for the 360c so there is definitely something it is incompatible with and Escort has not been helpful at all in determining what that might be.

It could also be the type of security you are using to secure the network?

That could be an issue. However; that is something that I cannot set or change in the hotspot and all other devices that I've tried work with it. That again might point to a weird incompatibility in the 360c, but Escort tech support continues to ignore this issue and render use of the 360c over Bluetooth instead.

So you're sure there is no way to access advanced settings in your hotspot to change security methods?

I saw an older post talking about network log in issues. If the wifi requires its own log in information there is no way for an escort detector to get past this. I wish i could find the post so i could explain it better.

I think the bottom line is either there is a setting on your wifi that needs changed or Escort detectors are just not compatible with your new system.

Shot in the dark but have you tried changing the network name/SSID?

"How do I change my network name/SSID password?

You can change your network name/SSID and password to something easier to remember here. Alternatively, you can use the OnStar RemoteLink® mobile app on your phone or press the blue OnStar button in your vehicle to change them."

If Android:

It is being distributed over several days so everyone will not see it in the Google Play store today.
