Default need to lengthen detector side of smart cord

I am installing a new console in the car so all wiring is emanating from the console. This makes the detector side cord with the rj11 too short. I tried to lengthen that side by getting a 4 wire phone code with rj11 and a straight through phone cord coupler but that doesn't work. The yellow and blue leds light simultaneously and stay on. no detector. i take that extension off and plug in the smart cord and all is well. so is there another way to extend that cord? My next trick will be to solder that phone wire into the line and eliminate the phone code rj11s and coupler. Will that make the lines too long?
I need a longer side that goes from the smart switch unit to the detector.
Thanks,

It can be done with a phone cord and coupler however not all couplers are the same. Some are straight through and others can actually switch pin outs from one side to the other, either find a coupling that doesn't do this or track how the pin outs change and recrimp a new rj plug on the detector end of the cord to accommodate this and give the detector the pin outs that it needs. Look at your existing cord to see where each wire needs to be in the plug. Black is ground, red is power, yellow is mute trigger (-)

Best bet is a hardwire pigtail if you have a powered mirror - unless you want the mute function down low....

Works great for me especially going from vehicle to vehicle. Even without a powered mirror, hardwire is a great way to go - hardwire cables are available.
