Passport IQ Display Popped off

I purchased 3 passport IQ's for my daughters and my wife. One of the IQ's screen popped off and my daughter has it secured in place with Hair Bands. I tried to reassemble it and there is a part inside the unit that has expanded so much that it pushed the screen right out of the case. Needless to say, it will not reassemble. The unit is used daily and we live near Houston, TX. The unit seems to be functioning fine even with this issue. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I have also had my screen popped off or about to many times. At first I thought it was from the occasional fall off its mounting brackets, which are terrible!! Now I believe it may be from the rechargeable battery inside the unit that seems to expand to where it busts open the face place. I live in Texas so I'm sure that the heat has a lot to do with it, but for $600 I would expect a better product.
I have sent it in once for repairs and had had 2 replacement mounts sent to me in the last 12 months, but once again, not what I would expect from a $600 device. Mine is once again popping out of the face plate. I am very disappointed in this device especially since I have been using Escort/Passport radar detectors for 30 years!!!

Me too

My IQ decided to "burst at the seam" yesterday as well, while traveling in the hills of Tennessee. Actually happened overnight while unit was off the dash in the center console (to avoid thieving eyes) Popped open at the top left corner, so now the ON/OFF switch is screed up. Can't squeeze the unit back together but for a moment.

Any feedback from Escort on this?

Yep, same place for me!! I sent mine for repair, again :(

Yes, it's the battery expanding which is causing this to happen. Please call us to have it serviced. Once serviced you should not have this issue any longer.

Not Happy

My IQ face has popped off on the switch side. I called customer service to be told that it is from heat exposure. My unit is stored in the Escort case when parked.

I was told that to remove the unit from the vehicle. Do people even think about what they are telling you. If I removed everything from my vehicle when parking, I'd need a wheel barrow to roll everything around. Where the hell are you going to put it? I' ve never had any electronics that needed to totally remove from the vehicle. I can allow for the direct windshield exposure, even though that should be a consideration during design.

The real kick in the *** is what I have to pay to "fix" the problem. It could cost over half as much as a new model or more. I've bought Escort products since the original Escort. I know this isn't the original company and it shows it in the customer service, design, and durability of the products.

I like the IQ even with it's failings. Too bad it isn't durable enough to survive the enviroment it has to function in.

Not too happy happy at the moment. There is no alternative so I may be doing without. Why fix something that will repeat the same design flaw after the "repair".

I am sorry to hear this. This limitation is solely due to the internal lithium-ion rechargable battery.

From page 5 of the Passport iQ Quick Reference Manual:
Quote:

Battery Warning

If these guidelines are not followed, the internal
lithium-ion battery may experience a shortened
lifespan or may present a risk of damage to
PASSPORT iQ, fire, chemical burn, electrolyte
leak, and/or injury.
Do not remove or attempt to remove the nonuser-
replaceable battery.
Do not leave PASSPORT iQ exposed to a heat
source or in a high-temperature location, such
as in the sun in an unattended vehicle. To
prevent damage, remove from the vehicle or
store it out of direct sunlight, such as in a
glove box.
Do not puncture or incinerate.
When storing PASSPORT iQ for an extended
time, store within the following temperature
range: 32F to 77F (0C to 25C).
Do not operate PASSPORT iQ outside of the
following temperature range: -4F to 131F
(-20C to 55C).
When disposing of PASSPORT iQ, take it to a
professional, such as a waste electronics
treatment facility, to have the battery removed
and recycled.

My Screen broke!! I live in Sugar Land, bought the unit locally at ProAm and was told they would not warranty it to send it in. I am already frustrated with this device as it has no arrows to alert you WHICH direction the threat is in and to top it off, is NOT compatible with the SmartCord Bluetooth Escort Live. For a $450+ detector, this should have all the options!

I plan on getting mine fixed and putting it up on ebay for sale. I also bought two of these, one for myself and the other for my daughter... such a waste of money.

Mine literally exploded while I was driving down the road. Scared the ____ out of me. Any one have experience with the repair process?
