http://escortradarforum.com/forums/a...1&d=1519325938

Add front Laser ShifterMax® sensors to select ESCORT and Beltronics radar detectors for the ultimate defense against laser guns, including new variable pulse rate guns.

Wireless communication between sensors and radar detector provides a simple installation.

See the ZW5 website for more information.

You can pre-order ZW5 by calling 1-800-964-3138 or from our website. We expect to begin shipping orders in mid-March to early April on a first ordered, first shipped basis. Your card will not be charged until your order ships.

ZW5 includes a coiled ZW5 SmartCord which must replace your current detector's power cord.

ZW5 with a Direct Wire SmartCord is also available. This version requires the ZW5 SmartCord to be installed into the vehicle.

ZW5 will not operate on its own. A compatible radar detector* is required to use ZW5.

Please note this product may be limited or prohibited in some jurisdictions. Check applicable laws before using.

*ZW5 is currently compatible with MAX 360c and RedLine EX. Compatibility with the following detectors will be added at a later date: Passport MAX, MAX 2, MAX 360, ESCORT iX, PASSPORT, X70, X80, and Beltronics GT-7.

Professional Installation Recommended

Differences between ZW5 and ZR5:
- ZW5 requires a compatible detector be connected in order to operate. ZR5 can be used standalone, without a compatible detector connected.
- ZW5 is limited to using two front shifters. ZR5 can be expanded to four shifters, mounted front or rear.
- You cannot use a SmartCord Live cord with ZW5.

I'm guessing I need to use the included SmartCord to connect the ZW5 to my 360c? Meaning, I can't just use my current mirrortap?

EscortRadar February 23rd, 2018 12:12 PM

You must use the included ZW5 SmartCord.

A version with a direct-wire ZW5 SmartCord is available only from authorized Escort installers.

Three questions:

1. When I look at the photo and the write-up in the post I see/read about four ZW5 components:
i). Sensors, ii) Smartcord; iii) Interface and, iv) an undentified rectangular box into which the sensors are plugged (bridgebox?).
However, when I click onto that photo it takes me to the order page shows as included only the first three items (the 4th unidentified rectangular box is missing). What is that box and is it included?

2. Is a smartphone with bluetooth (and/or EL) necessary to make or maintain the initial setup from the RD to the ZW5?

3. Will the ZW5 support more than 2 sensors down the road some time, such as 3rd front and/or 2 rear?

Interesting that the BridgeBox is not shown as "Included" on the purchase page below. Perhaps just a printing error.

I see from the Install Manual you we so kind to post that the ZW5 Smartcord comes pre-paired with the Interface. I'm not sure how this then communicates with the RD (hardwire via SmartCord, bluetooth or wi-fi) and how EL and/or a smartphone come into play with this setup.

I see that if a communication re-pair is necessary between the SmartCord and Interface, a small button is pushed on the Smartcord's "In Line Module" area , so I wonder how this works with a direct wire SmartCord, as it will not be readily accessible in most cases. Would like it if ESCORT could post a photo of the direct wire ZW5 Smartcord to get an idea of how this could be done.

EDIT:Looking forward to more info on these operational/install details when available such as:

1. What parameters, if any, can be controlled via RD Preferences (other than jam, receive, off)?
2. What parameters, if any, can be controlled via EL?
3. Is the jam time pre-set (to how many seconds) or controllable?
4. What is displayed on the RD screen and voice alert (eg. shift/ receive only/off)?

ZW5 uses its own proprietary wireless communication protocol. It is not bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The ZW5 SmartCord and interface are paired at the factory. You would only need to pair a cord with the interface if you replaced the cord. A smartphone is not needed to use ZW5.

If you want the sensors to shift, then there are no settings to change on your detector. Simply plug in the ZW5 SmartCord. If you want the sensors to receive-only and not shift then you will need to change this setting on your detector.

ZW5 is not compatible with SmartCord Live cords.
ZW5 is compatible with Escort Live through Escort Live-ready detectors (detectors with built-in bluetooth). All laser alerts received by ZW5 are sent to Escort Live.

1. What parameters, if any, can be controlled via RD Preferences (other than jam, receive, off)?
The available settings are: Off, Shift, Receive-only

2. What parameters, if any, can be controlled via EL?
"Off, Shift, and Receive-only" can be controlled in the detector's preferences menu which is also available through Escort Live

3. Is the jam time pre-set (to how many seconds) or controllable?
Not currently. We are looking into adding this via a firmware update (ZW5 is updatable via USB). Double press the detector's MUTE button when receiving a laser alert to temporarily disable shifting and put the sensors in "receive-only" mode. After 30 seconds the laser sensors automatically go back into "shifting" mode.

4. What is displayed on the RD screen and voice alert (eg. shift/ receive only/off)?
"(F) Laser SHIFTING" is displayed and "Front laser shifting" is announced when the sensors are set to shifting.
"(F) Laser" is displayed and "Front laser alert" is announced when the sensors are set to receive-only
. The sensors will not alert when they are turned off.

Hi, I am not sure what this means. I just bought the Max 360C. I plan to hardwire it in (Like the person above, as I do not want to have a smart cord hanging around). I phoned today to order the ZW5 and they said there is only one cord - the Smart cord. There is not other way to use it. this conflicts with the message above - direct wire SmartCord. Why can't the Max 360C do this? It is new and you would have thought this would have been thought out in the product/project plan since they work together. Also, Can the Zw5 be shut off after 4 seconds? I do not want to have to hit the mute button on the Max 360C. So, What about the direct connect smart cord and how will it work?
